TV Archive – The Roisin McAliskey Case

Original transmission date: 6 March 1997

Roisin McAliskey was imprisoned in 1996 accused of a mortar attack on a British Army base in Germany. Despite conclusive evidence of her innocence, she was held while pregnant in conditions  described by Amnesty International as ‘cruel, inhuman or degrading’. Extradition  was refused in 1998 on health grounds. The Crown Prosecution Service ruled in  2000 she had no case to answer. This UTV Insight  documentary outlined her case. Next week: John Walters
